"Group of Rebel Leaders". |
Illustration of Louis Riel on horseback during the aborted Fenian raids of 1871, with a group of Metis and aboriginal people with guns and tomahawks. Lt. Governor Archibald asked Archbishop Tache to approach Riel for assistance from the Metis in the defense of Manitoba against the impending Fenian raids, even though Riel had been labeled a traitor for leading the Resistance of 1869 to 1870. The Metis man on the far right is wearing the typical sash and leggings. Note the different clothing. Dogs are also in the image. |

A Man Is Standing With A Gun At The Site Of The "Reference Monument" Raised By David Thompson (British) On July 24 (Or 29), 1824, On The Most North Westerly Point Of Lake Of The Woods. The Surveyors Had Great Difficulty In Finding That Spot. This Site Was Designated By Treaty Of Ghent As Key To Boundary Between British North America (Canada) & The American States (Usa). The Site Was Endorsed By The Joint Boundary Commissioners On October 26, 1826. In The Formal Search By The Boundary Commission Of 1872, The Remnants Were Found In A Swamp On October 17, 1872 And The Famous Corner Was Commemorated As Shown Beside The Man. The Bushes At The Site Completely Surround And Tower Over The Man And The Monument Made Of Logs |

Aboriginal camp at Oxford House, Manitoba with a York Boat in the water fitted for sail, and to the right a person with an axe. |
The canoes are Western Woods Cree showing an Ojibway style influence in the protruding prows, which was often the case. The traditional Cree design had a straighter stem, more common for calm water areas. This same general model was shared with the Western Woods Cree, Swampy Cree, James Bay Cree, and the Montagnais. |

Drawing Of Prairie College, Rapid City, Mb. The Problem Of Combining Higher Christian And Secular Education With The Pattern Of Agricultural Settlement Was Not An Easy One, But With The Establishment Of Prairie College, The Mckee Academy, And Brandon College (Now Brandon University), Western Manitoba Has Been Provided With An Unbroken Tradition Of Higher Learning Since 1880. Prairie College Was The Creation Of Dr. John Crawford, A Baptist Professor Of The Canadian Literary Institute At Woodstock, On, Who Hoped To Provide An Educational Community To Train Ministers For The Rapidly Multiplying Settlements Of The Canadian West And Offer Advanced Secular Learning To The Newcomers. Education Began With The Actual Construction On A Site On The Proposed Canadian Pacific Railway Line. Rev. G.B. Davis And Nine Male Students Tented On The Site While They Gathered Building Materials, Planted Gardens And Erected A Two Storey Stone Building To House Students And Faculty. This All Began In Autumn Of 1880 After Harvest And Ended Before Seeding So Students Could Be Free To Help At Home. Dr. Crawford Was Principal And Rev. Davis, The Vice-Principal |
